Outgoing 2016-17 President Dr. William Leffler confers on Club Service Chairman Chad Hartman and President Elect Michelle Hartman Rotary's highest honor, the Paul Harris Fellow award.

The Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of US$1,000 to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.  The Rotary Club of Massillon annually makes this donation to honor a member who has made the greatest contribution to club activities.  This is the first time that two people were honored, let alone two from the same family!

The award was established in 1957 to show appreciation for and encourage substantial contributions to what was then the Foundation’s only program, Rotary Foundation Fellowships for Advanced Study, the precursor to Ambassadorial Scholarships.

Paul Harris Fellows receive a certificate and pin. The Rotary Club of Massillon also purchases a Paul Harris Fellow medallion for the winners, and a name badge that gets added to a banner displayed each week.

Many notable figures have been named as Paul Harris Fellows, including U.S. President Jimmy Carter, Russian President Boris Yeltsin, U.S. astronaut James Lovell, UN Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar, and Jonas Salk.   We believe that Chad and Michelle make a similar impact on Rotary, and on our community.
